Bra Back Closure: Hook & Eye Tip

Ever wonder which eye is the best level to hook your bra at? With a wide variety of combinations of the two available (i.e a single front hook or 1 hook and 3 eyes on the back, etc.), it's never easy finding the "right" one for your body. The most common type of hook and eye combination is the 2 hook and 6 eye set, as exemplified below.

Regardless of which bra one wears,  almost all bras contain some form of hook and eye. But, due to the excessive focus on the size of our cups, the hook and eye are important parts of the bra that are often overlooked.

Usually, most people fasten the hook on the middle eyes, for that seems like the most sensible and equidistant part of the bra. According to Refinery29, however, its is recommended to clip the hook on the most outer eye of the bra, not the middle. This way the bra will be most healthily maintained.

Here's why: A bra is bound to stretch when worn for more than 6 months. Thus, taking into account the length that the bra will increase, one should initially purchase a bra that fits when it is clipped to the outer most part of the bra. After the 6 months of use, one can then adjust the length of the bra by fastening the bra more inwards.

In addition, when initially uses the most inner eye of the bra, the bra will easily stretch, elongating the wing and loosening the grip of the bra.
