Award-winning Bra Design
Fascinatingly, the amalgamation of technology and design has seeped into the fashion industry so fittingly that it has changed the landscape of what we wear, how we wear, and why we wear the clothes that we do.
A grad student from the UK, Selina Bond has catapulted to fame this February as an award-winning designer of a sleek and powerful line of lingerie at the UK Lingerie Awards. Incorporating the Formula 1 technology passed on by her father, she showcased her lingerie design that utilized the carbon fibers - the same material used for race cars- and soft velvet. According to her, the carbon fibers had a flexible property of perfectly fitting the contours of the wearer's body. The juxtaposition of the lacquered, sleek texture of the carbon fibers and the ruffly intricate patterns of the velvet lace provided the succinct encapsulation of a dominant, empowered women.
Her design has caught the attention of numerous well-known designers like John Lewis, Fenwick Bond Street, Figleaves and Rigby and Peller. With an auspicious record, she hopes to create more products, including carbon fiber accessories amd harnesses, that integrate the scientific Formula 1 concept into the artistic retail design.
